Four Campaign Pillars

The U.S. Interfaith Trade Justice Campaign addresses four major trade policy areas, advocating for:

  1. Food Security: Trade agreements must promote the right to food, sustainable agriculture, and greater self-reliance in developing countries to achieve not only food security but food sovereignty.
  2. Right to Essential Services: Trade policies and rules should guarantee all people access to “essential services,” including the access to health care, essential medicines, education, water and basic utilities.
  3. Democracy and Transparency: Democratic processes of participation, transparency, accountability should be a significant part of all trade negotiations and their resulting agreements.
  4. Regulation of Transnational Corporations: International trade and investment frameworks should ensure the regulation of transnational corporations (TNC’s) so that their actions actually contribute to poverty eradication, promote human rights and respect the right of local communities to protect the environment and sustainably develop their natural resources.
